Scopes of Practice Review

The Medical Sciences Council is revising the medical laboratory science scopes of practice.
The Council has a regular programme of review to ensure the regulatory frameworks in place for medical laboratory science practitioners continues to be fit for purpose.  This review has been undertaken as a component of the Council’s regulatory frameworks review programme.
The Council is proposing a number of changes to the scopes of practice for medical laboratory science practitioners. The proposals have been developed in collaboration with representatives from the New Zealand Institute of Medical Laboratory Science to gauge their expert insights into issues facing the profession. The proposed changes intend to provide clarity and flexibility for the workforce.  
The Council is seeking feedback from the medical laboratory science profession and other interested stakeholders in respect of the revision of the scopes of practice.
