Introduction

The Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services (ROWPHE) has been involved in the development and distribution of the New Parent Resource Guide (NPRG) since 2009 in collaboration with community partners.

The NPRG has two purposes:

1. To be a source of important information for new parents
2. To be a teaching tool for professionals

The NPRG addresses a wide range of topics important for parents including: breastfeeding, caring for a newborn, parenting, child development, safety and local resources. The guide is distributed to parents at the time of their child’s birth through Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Grand River Hospital and midwives. The guide is also available for parents at a number of local community agencies and online.

As a parent in Waterloo Region, we would like to hear your thoughts and experience with the NPRG. Your feedback will be used to improve the guide and improve how Public Health delivers health information to new parents.

This survey will take approximately 10 minutes. You can stop at any time. We will only use the data that you provide. Your answers will not affect the services you receive from Public Health or other service providers.

Data from the survey will be stored for seven years after completion of the evaluation. Individual responses will be held strictly confidential by an external partner and will not be released to Public Health or any other party. The results of the survey will be reported in aggregate with no ability to identify individual respondents, and will be published in the Final NPRG Evaluation Report which is expected to be complete by November 2017. The final evaluation report can be accessed from the Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services.

All information provided will be used solely for the purposes of this evaluation. Any questions about the survey can be forwarded to Gregory.Runke@mnp.ca, or 1-877-500-0795.

Any Questions regarding the NPRG can be forwarded to Heidy Choi-Keirstead: 519.575.4400 ext. 5028.

Any concerns regarding your participation in the survey or the NRPG evaluation can be forwarded to Celina Sousa, Chair of the Research Ethics Board: 519.575.4400 ext. 5033
