Supporting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Jefferson Lab  Veteran Mentor Program

The Veteran Buddy Program at Jefferson Lab is intended to ease the transition of military veterans into a civilian workplace by pairing them with experienced JLab veterans. 

As a mentor of the Veteran Buddy Program, you will:

- Serve as a connection to a newly-hired veteran for information and resources within the mentee's first six months of employment.
- Serve as a mentor to your assigned mentee for the first 60-90 days of new hire employment including:
  • Showing the new hire around campus, including main work buildings, the campus cafeteria and other relevant job-specific locations.
  • Ensure that the mentee is aware of resources available to them as a JLab employee, as well as a JLab veteran including:
    • Human Resources reporting avenues
    • Environmental Safety and Health reporting avenues
    • Individual Career Profile (ICP)
    • Annual Performance Appraisal process
    • Communication Avenues
    • Lab Organizational Charts by Department/Division
    • Lab-Specific Vocabulary/Acronyms
    • Annual veterans events
    • Ongoing DEI-events for Veterans such as Focus Group Meetings
    • Information on local resources for veterans
This program is intended: 
- To acclimate the mentee into the lab. 
- To provide the mentee with the resources to be successful in their transition into lab culture. 

This is program is not intended: 
- To dedicate personal time to acclimate your mentee to non-work related activities. 

You will be contacted when a mentee has been matched to you to verify your current availability and interest in participating.
