Pickleball is an emerging sport experiencing a popularity boom in Canada, particularly among older adults and seniors. Pickleball is a paddleball sport, combining elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played with a paddle and a wiffleball (a plastic ball with holes) on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. The sport is played as double or singles and can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels. Visit the Pickleball Canada website to learn more about pickleball.

As recommended by the City’s 2018 Active Together Master Plan, the City is conducting a study to evaluate the feasibility of utilizing existing tennis court infrastructure as an opportunity to accommodate pickleball play (shared pickleball-tennis courts). Additional line painting will be added to an existing tennis court to demarcate a pickleball court. Based on the findings of the Pickleball Study, the City will evaluate the demand and implementation tools and opportunities for pickleball facilities in the city of Vaughan.

The purpose of this survey is to identify and receive feedback from Citizens interested to play outdoor pickleball. Some experienced pickleball players may also be extended an invitation to take part in a mini virtual focus group.

The survey will take approximately 11 minutes to complete and will be available until March 15, 2021. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Michael Habib, Senior Planner, Parks and Open Space Planning, Parks Infrastructure Development & Planning, at Michael.Habib@vaughan.com or 905-832-2281, ext. 8092.
