LEAP (Leadership through Education, Activities, and Personal Development) is a committee comprised of student leaders from WIAA member schools that serves as the voice of the WIAA's 225,000+ student participants.
 
Each spring, the WIAA selects eight incoming high school juniors to join the LEAP Committee. Committee members serve throughout their junior and senior years. The LEAP Committee meets 5-6 times each school year at the WIAA office in Renton. Committee members also have the opportunity to be involved in additional WIAA-related opportunities, including Executive Board meetings and State Championships. Meeting dates are provided to members upon appointment to the Committee and all travel expenses to and from meetings are reimbursed by the Association.

In addition to general questions about your involvement, this application requires that you:

  • Create and share a link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to a personal video statement that tells us who you are, what activities you are involved with, what makes your school unique, and what qualities you have that would benefit the LEAP Committee (no more than four (4) minutes long). HAVE FUN AND BE CREATIVE!
  • Respond to two (2) essay questions requiring 1-2 paragraphs each.
  • Have two (2) letters of recommendation submitted on your behalf from teachers, coaches, administrators or advisors.  Detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of this application.
