Bromley L. Armstrong Award for Individual Excellence 

NOMINATION FORM

The Bromley L. Armstrong Award recognizes the outstanding contributions, commitment and leadership of an individual in the fight for, and propagation of, labour and human rights.
 
The Toronto & York Region Labour Council and Labour Community Services established this prestigious award in 2005 to commemorate the courage, dedication, and outstanding service of Bromley L. Armstrong to the Labour and Human Rights Movements in Canada. This award is presented yearly to a member(s) of a Toronto & York Region Labour Council affiliated union local that has demonstrated excellence in the areas of labour equity and human rights.
 
The award selection process will be based on activities and contributions of the nominee/s during the previous calendar year.
 
ELIGIBILITY 
  • The nominee must be a member of a Toronto & York Region Labour Council affiliated union local.
  • The nomination must recognize and outline the activities and contributions that meet or exceed the selection criteria below.
  • The award may be presented to recognize continuous service or a significant highlighted event in the Labour movement.
  • The nomination should include two references. (It would be beneficial to have the endorsement of the affiliated local union’s executive.)
  • All nomination forms must be received by Labour Community Services between March 6, 2023-April 14, 2023.
Recommendation/s for the award recipient/s will be made by the Toronto & York Region Labour Council’s Equity Committee to the Toronto & York Region Labour Council’s Executive Committee for approval. The Equity Committee or a designate will consult with individuals or unions to seek clarification where necessary. All recommendations must meet the award selection criteria.
 
AWARD SELECTION CRITERIA

The award recipient will be a person who:
  • exemplifies the spirit, dedication, and ideas of the Labour movement
  • made contributions to Labour equity and human rights
  • helped confront human rights violations and support members experiencing such violations
  • promoted equity within their union and the wider Labour movement
  • demonstrated leadership in the Labour movement and the community
Nominations should include specific examples of the above criteria when the nominees are presented.

IMPORTANT DATES
  • Nominations will be accepted from March 6, 2023, to April 14, 2023.
  • Selection and approval will be completed by April 27, 2023.
  • Bromley L. Armstrong Awards Gala (presentation of awards) will take place on June 14, 2023.
