Annual Conference 2020: Call for Charities

EMA is committed to giving back to our communities and we are happy to announce 5% of the monies collected from AC 2020 registrations will go directly to charities chosen by the AC 2020 attendees.

The Annual Conference Donation Committee selected the following charities and requests your feedback and input on the selection. Based on your input, the committee will select the final two charities which will be announced prior to the Annual Conference (Reimagine Week in September).

The committee will choose a local and national charity each year. Since we were supposed to be in Chicago this September, our local charity will be based in Chicago.

Assata’s Daughters (“AD”) is a Black woman-led, young person-directed organization rooted in the Black Radical Tradition. AD organizes young Black people in Chicago by providing them with political education, leadership development, mentorship, and revolutionary services.

Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ individuals.

HighSight provides scholarships, tutoring, mentoring, leadership development, and college readiness
programs that create new possibilities for Chicago high school students from low-income families.

Save Our Streets - Chicago based program providing outreach services, training, and resources to high crime, low-income communities. We provide educational, recreational, cultural, health, and lifelong learning opportunities for youth ages 13-21.

Equal Justice Initiative works to end mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality.

NAACP - The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People - is a civil rights organization in the United States, formed in 1909 as a bi-racial endeavor to advance justice for African Americans.

The Loveland Foundation is committed to showing up for communities of color in unique and powerful ways, with a particular focus on Black women and girls.

The Poor People Campaign works to support poor and impacted communities across the country by confronting the interlocking evils of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, militarism and the war economy, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism.
