Do you experience chronic or recurrent UTIs, or care for those who do? Have your say!

This summer, we asked people living with chronic and recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI), carers and healthcare professionals to tell us the questions they have about living with, or caring for, people living with chronic and recurrent UTI. Over 1200 people shared more than 2600 questions.

We now have a long list of questions for future research to answer, and need your help to find out which are the most important.

Thanks to everyone who sent comments and questions, we have taken them all into account. The questions that can be answered by research were summarised and are listed in this new survey. Any questions that can't be answered by research will still be taken forward in other ways, so nothing is lost.

Why are we doing this survey?

We want to understand the most important questions about chronic and recurrent UTI. The project will result in a Top 10 list of research questions that can be used to promote and fund new research.

The results will shape the future of research and therefore treatment and diagnosis of chronic and recurrent UTI.

Who should take part in this survey?

We want to hear from:
  • Adults and children who live with or have experienced chronic or recurrent UTI
  • Carers of adults and/or children with chronic or recurrent UTI
  • Healthcare professionals and other people who care for those with chronic and recurrent UTI in the community,

What are we asking you to do?

We need you to select the 10 questions that matter to you the most from the longlist of 50 questions. We have added two stages to help you narrow down the list. We expect this will take you 15 minutes.

Please ask others to complete the survey too – we want to make researchers aware of the issues that matter to the most people.

What happens next?

We will use the votes collected in this survey to form a shortlist of questions to take forward to a final workshop on 15 January 2026. At this workshop we will bring together people with chronic or recurrent UTI, carers, and healthcare professionals to work together to rank the shortlist of questions and reach consensus about the Top 10 priorities. After that workshop, we will announce the Top 10 research priorities for chronic and recurrent UTI in the UK.

The Top 10 most important questions will be brought to the attention of researchers and research funders. The aim is to shift the focus of research towards answering the questions that are most relevant to people living with chronic and recurrent UTI.

We will make the top 10 list of questions available at www.amr-action-uk.org so that everyone can see it. For more information on this project go to amr-action-uk.org.

Keeping your information secure
This survey is anonymous, but we will ask for some information about you to help us know who is responding so we can make sure as wide a section of society responds as possible.

There will be chance to leave your contact details if you would like to hear about the results of the project. You may also be potentially invited to the final workshop in January 2026. If you do leave your contact details, they will be deleted at the end of the project.
