Dear Participant,

You are invited to participate in an anonymous questionnaire designed to examine, among other variables, personality, motivations, and behaviours associated with online dating. The purpose of this study is to understand how these factors predict online dating behaviours. You are advised that participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw your participation at any time without penalty. You are reminded they are not obliged to answer questions if they make you feel uncomfortable.

Please take the time to complete the following questionnaire, which will take roughly 30 minutes of your time. Please note that you must be over 18 years of age to participate in the current research. The survey will ask you to provide some brief demographic information.  Then the questionnaire will ask you about your personality, perceptions of self, and online behaviours.

Your participation in this project is voluntary and your answers are anonymous. You are free to refuse consent or withdraw participation at any time without explanation. Please note however, that each time you click the ‘next’ button throughout the questionnaire, your answers are immediately submitted and become amalgamated with the data. Therefore, should you decide to withdraw your participation throughout the questionnaire, there will be no way to retrieve your already submitted individual answers.

Please note that first year psychology students at Federation University may have the opportunity to attain course credit upon completion of this questionnaire. Please ensure that you confirm this eligibility, which will be documented in your Course Description.
Some questions may be of a personal nature and, while unlikely, may cause some emotional discomfort.  Should you experience any emotional discomfort when completing this questionnaire, you may discontinue your participation at any time. Additionally, if you do experience emotional discomfort during the questionnaire, you are encouraged to contact either Federation University Counselling Service (for Federation University students only) via online: http://federation.edu.au/students/assistance-support-and-services/student-support-services/advice-and-counselling or PH: 5327 9470, or Lifeline on PH: 13 11 14.

All researchers in this project have experience studying psychology and conducting quantitative experiments. Data will be collected via online and will be stored on a password encrypted USB. Only project researchers will have access to data. Data will be stored on the encrypted USB for a minimum of 5 years, after which the USB will be wiped and reformatted.

Participants are reminded that their answers are anonymous and there will be no way to identify individuals from their responses. The current research will extend previous research on personality traits and selfie behaviour, therefore the information and results gathered for this research has the potential to be published in either journal or conference form. Results will be published in an aggregated form that would not identify the participant in any way.

If you have any questions, or would like further information regarding the project titled Personality, Motivations, and Online Dating Behaviours please contact the Principal Researcher, Dr Evita March, of the School of Health Science and Psychology.
