1. Background on Disability Rights NC's Proposed 2018 Targets

Disability Rights North Carolina is our State's protection and advocacy system for people with disabilities. We provide advocacy services and legal representation at no charge in certain cases where the civil rights of people with disabilities are violated or in danger of being violated. We enforce the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal and state laws.

People with disabilities in North Carolina face many barriers to full equality and justice. However, we do not have the resources necessary to tackle all of the issues facing people with disabilities at one time. That is why we create Targets, which provide the structure for how we spend our limited resources.

We want to make sure we focus our resources on the issues that members of the disability community believe are important. We are asking you to complete this survey because your input will help us make better decisions about our work in the coming fiscal year.

The survey should take only about five minutes to complete.

On June 16, 2017, the Board of Directors of Disability Rights NC tentatively approved our 2018 Targets. Those Targets are now available for public comment through August 4, 2017. The Board will carefully consider all public input before finalizing the 2018 Targets at its September Board meeting. Our 2018 fiscal year begins on October 1, 2017. See a complete list of the proposed 2018 Targets, the populations impacted, and the rationale for each Target at www.disabilityrightsnc.org/targets.
