Join faculty, staff, and students to kick off Founders’ Week with a day of service in the areas surrounding Barry’s Miami Shores campus. Participants will contribute to urban gardening, support schools, and participate in neighborhood beautification projects in honor of the university’s collaborative service tradition.

Arbor Day, first celebrated in 1941, called for every class of freshmen to plant a tree to symbolize their growth over the years. This tradition honors that while classes will come and go, the tree will remain as a commemoration of their contribution.

Students, faculty, and staff will present exemplary collaborative projects that demonstrate Barry’s Mission and Core Commitments in action. This year, we will highlight the work emerging from the Anti-Racism and Equity Coalition.  Presentations will focus on actions that transform our university culture to build an inclusive learning and working environment for students, faculty, staff, and administrators. 

Boxed lunches will be served following the Broad Auditorium presentation with outdoor seating available under tents in various locations. All participants are asked to wear masks and sit in designated spaces.

Campus Ministry invites the Barry community to the Founders' Week Mass offered in-person and via live stream. This traditional Mass honors the vision and legacy of Barry's four founders: Mother Mary Gerald Barry, Bishop Patrick Barry, Monsignor William Barry, Mayor John Thompson as well as the Adrian Dominican Sisters for whom Barry is a sponsored institution.
