YWCA Glendale and Pasadena will offer TechGYRLS® program after-school in partnership with The City Of Pasadena Parks, Recreation, And Community Services Department. The TechGYRLS® program seeks to empower young girls in the areas of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and to encourage them to pursue careers within these fields, particularly for underrepresented girls. TechGYRLS® is a place to dream, explore new ideas, learn new skills, and be creative through STEAM activities.
TechGYRLS® workshops include Sphero and LEGO® Robotics, Google Coding, and the Caltech Mentor Program. Through our partnership with CaltechY & ASCIT at California Institute of Technology, we are able to match TechGYRLS® with Caltech students and offer in-person group mentoring.
Audience: Girls in 4th-8th grade; however, girls of all ages are eligible to participate
Safety: All in-person programs will follow current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines.
TechGYRLS® Offerings 2023-2024 Full Schedule of Events Provided for Enrolled Families Caltech Group Mentor Events YWCA TechGYRLS® will participate in group STEAM Mentoring activities with Caltech student mentors serving as role models and support for academic success. Mentorship sessions will be offered in-person with the potential for online events.
Robotics & Block Coding Girls will learn robotics and block coding basics in an encouraging and supportive space with Sphero and LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime, BricQ Motion Essential, & WeDo 2.0.
National STEAM Day & Events Join us for a Family National STEAM Day where all participants will be able to explore simple circuits by creating their own Wearable Tech creation with LilyPad E-Sewing ProtoSnap.
