Survey Instructions

Our school is working to end bullying and other harmful behavior by training adults and students in Virtue-Based Restorative Discipline, or VBRD. This survey will help researchers decide how we can help our school do everything possible to promote kindness and peace. Your answers will help us understand how we can improve the way we treat one another here. We will be asking about behaviors that cause harm, and what we do when there is harm.

We define harm, or bullying, as the way students and adults mistreat one another. So to be clear about what we are asking, if we refer to "harm," we mean unkind words and/or actions that are:

1. Intentional (done on purpose) and repeated
2. Meant to cause physical or emotional pain
3. Causing us to feel unsafe at school

This is a confidential survey about your experience at school THIS SCHOOL YEAR. We are not asking about things in the past that you might remember, so be sure to answer for what is happening now. No one in your school will be able to see your answers because they are sent to a researcher who will use all surveys to determine if VBRD is working here at our school, and at other schools, too.

So please be honest in your answers to questions about life here at school. There will be one choice for each answer, and if the answer does not apply to you, you would answer by clicking on the zero.

Please read each question carefully. This is not a timed test, so be sure and take time to think through your answers before clicking on your response.

If you have any questions, you can ask for help.

Each statement about your experience at school refers to what is happening in general, now in this school year. After reading each statement, decide on one of the following answers: Strongly Agree, Agree, Somewhat, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, or Not Applicable.

You will click on the answer that is true for you in your experience. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer, so do not think about anything other than what is true for you. There is no place for your name on this survey, and no one at school will see the answers you have entered once they are in the computer because these surveys go to a researcher.
