Welcome to the Home Seeker Application! If you are a registered student at Loyalist College, in good standing and interested in sharing a home with an older adult, you are in the right place!

Please read each question carefully and select the option that best applies to you. Be honest with your answers as this will ensure the best possible match for both you and the older adult. You will be asked to review our program policies and agree to what is outlined. The next section includes a series of questions to get to know you and your preferences. The last section outlines the next steps and your agreement to understanding the process.

* 1. Please read and confirm your understanding and agreement with the following program policies.

We collect your personal information. This information is used to process your application for the Home Share Loyalist College program and to guide recommendations for a potential match. We do not share identifying information with any third party without your written consent. We do not sell personal information. Non-identifying information may be use used for research purposes or reporting.

We do not discriminate on any basis of personal identify, as per the Ontario Human Rights Code. Individual participants have the right to refuse matches made by the program if they determine it is incompatible.

All home providers must have at least one person is 55 years of age or older. Home providers are required to have valid home insurance, fire and property insurance as well as liability insurance and provide proof of this to the Home Share Team. 

All students are required to purchase contents/liability insurance independently prior to moving in. They will be required to provide verification of this to the Home Share Team.

Home Share Loyalist College Program, Loyalist College, their employees, directors, officers, or agents shall not be liable for any losses, injuries, including death, or property damage that may occur while participating in the home share program. The Home Share Agreement developed between a student and older adults is not a lease, students are not covered under the Residential Tenancies Act, Ontario. This agreement is a shared understanding of how each person will act and treat each other. Both the home seekers and home providers are advised to consult their own legal, financial and or other advisers who can assist with the decision to participate in this program.

The type of home sharing arrangement in this program is lower than market value cost of rent for the student and approximately 7 hours per week of companionship, light housekeeping, chores or other agreed upon tasks between the student and home provider. The aim is to develop a home sharing agreement that is mutually beneficial for both people. No personal or medical care is provided as part of this program. All applicants are advised to seek legal advice related to this type of home sharing arrangement.

All applicants with Loyalist College Home Share Program will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) through their local police service (e.g., Belleville Police, Ontario Provincial Police).  This screening is to help ensure the safety of all parties against possible violent or criminal behaviour. If there is a fee for this service, it is the responsibility of the applicant.
