Welcome to the Massachusetts Soil Health Support MiniGrants!

This program provides minigrants of up to $1500 to producers in Massachusetts to overcome specific, clearly-defined obstacles to implementing soil health goals. Suggested categories include: modifying or upgrading implements, purchasing soil covers or soil carbon inputs, improving cover crop practices, hiring a consultant, or other specific needs related to soil health obstacles.

Applicants who are advanced in their soil health practices may opt to answer a few additional questions to apply for an additional $1000 Soil Health Innovators (SHI) Award. Awardees at this level are asked to present in a webinar or host a field day on their farm in partnership with AFT to showcase their soil health practices to other farmers. Only five farmers will be awarded the SHI Award. Applying to the SHI level award will not impact selection of Soil Health Support Minigrant.

Applications are limited to farmers who have completed the Massachusetts Coordinated Soil Health Program’s Producer Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MASoilHealth

Responses to the Producer Survey will be reviewed to help us ensure that we provide support to a diversity of farmers across scale, county and demographics.

The estimated time to complete this application is 30 minutes (and an additional 15 for the SHI award) To assist reviewers, please keep your responses succinct.

If you have questions during the application process, please email Caro Roszell at croszell@farmland.org.

Applications open December 15, 2023 and are due on March 1, 2024
