Each year, UMDF’s Mitochondrial Medicine Conference brings together the best minds in mitochondrial medicine and the patients we serve. With over 700 attendees representing almost every state in the U.S. and more than 15 different countries, the Conference is recognized as the world’s preeminent event for mitochondrial disease.

Mitochondrial Medicine 2025 provides an international stage for leaders in mitochondrial medicine and offers programs to inspire the next generation of researchers. You will learn about the latest developments in the field of mitochondrial medicine, including industry advancements, potential treatments, therapies and cutting edge research. The event also gives the scientific communities the unique experience of engaging with affected patients to better understand symptoms and work faster towards a cure.

The Bryan Fleming Young Mitochondrial Researchers (YMR) Scholarship Award encourages graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are actively involved in the field of mitochondrial medicine. The scholarship aims to provide a training experience for young investigators in the area of mitochondrial-related research through active participation in the annual UMDF Mitochondrial Medicine conference. Award amounts will be made based on both merit and need.

Masterclass Scholarship Award - UMDF is expanding programming at this year's conference to include a Masterclass on Primary Mitochondrial Myopathy with a focus on TK2D which has been designed to provide an invaluable, in-person, educational experience for up-and-coming clinicians and early career investigators. Travel scholarship awards for this new programming will be granted to approximately 20 applicants, including a stipend to assist with hotel, air travel, ground transportation, and meeting registration (covering four days of programming). Awards will be made based on both merit and need.
