The growing population & school size

We’re interested in what you think about school size because we’re very rapidly approaching a time when it may have to drastically change. Our population dynamic shows a large influx of primary school-aged students, a combination of baby booms and immigration, which will very soon be hitting our secondary schools. Currently, the number of students we can teach at mainstream secondary schools is well below the predicted number of teenagers very soon headed our way. Now is a great time to start planning for this, and to advocate for the education system to grow and excel at preparing our rangatahi for adulthood.

There are so many possibilities for how the education system could deal with greater student numbers. We can grow our current schools, we can build new schools, we can evolve distance and online learning into a world-leading platform that allows students greater accessibility and flexibility to fit into their more complex lives. (Think rural, think pro-sports, think health needs).

We want to know what you think would work. We want to know what would best serve your community, and we want you to tell us so that we can advocate for it on your behalf.
