Cardiothoracic surgeons who treat underserved* patients and who demonstrate a financial need are eligible for a $1,000 travel award to attend the STS 54th Annual Meeting to be held on January 27-31, 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

*Underserved people are defined as those who have a health disparity as defined by the CDC and lack awareness of, or access to, medically appropriate healthcare.

Funding: Each $1,000 travel award will be issued to the physician to defray the costs to attend the conference. Award checks can be picked up on site.

Apply: To apply for a travel award, cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians must complete this online application, and submit a CV or resume by the application deadline. The application seeks information about the applicant’s current employment setting, their treatment of underserved* patients, and the applicant’s financial need for the award.

Award Application Deadline: Award applications will be accepted through December 15, 2017 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Award Notification: Award recipients will be notified by January 1, 2018.
 
Eligibility:

-Cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians who treat underserved heart valve patients, and;
-Cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians who demonstrate a financial need for the travel award.

Review Process: TSF will review and score all applicants based on the specific award criteria, with an emphasis on the impact the award may have on treating the underserved population in the applicant’s home institution.
