Introduction to the Survey

With the full support of the Head of School and the Board of Trustees, Sandy Spring Friends School is working with The Glasgow Group to conduct a full diversity audit.  The goal of the diversity audit is to measure the school's progress in its efforts at diversity and inclusion, in support of the school's mission statement and diversity statement, both found below. 

Sandy Spring Friends School provides a welcoming and nurturing learning community with Friends testimonies and Meeting for Worship central to its life and vitality. A challenging academic curriculum, enriched arts program, inclusive athletics, and service opportunities promote intellectual excellence and strength of character. Recognizing the unique worth of each person, the School strives to develop individual talents and foster caring and effective citizens of the world.

Sandy Spring Friends School embraces the values of the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers. Quaker values are grounded in the belief that there is that of God in everyone. This belief – along with the continuous quest to seek the truth – is central to the understanding that diversity of thought, identity and experience is essential to academic excellence, personal growth and spiritual development. Our School is committed to fostering a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, administrators, trustees and families who accept, appreciate and respect each individual’s uniqueness.
- All-School Diversity Statement
This survey is an important part of the diversity audit.  All members of the Sandy Spring Friends School community are encouraged to participate in this anonymous survey. At the conclusion of the survey, you will be asked demographic questions for the sole purpose of being able to aggregate the data across several identifiers of interest as we make meaning of the results for purposeful action. This survey is being conducted by The Glasgow Group, LLC, which will analyze the results and issue a report with recommendations to the Head of School and the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. Selected results and recommendations will be shared more broadly.
