SOCIAL SECURITY OVERPAYMENTS

News articles have reported recently that more than 2 million retirees and individuals with disabilities receive letters from the Social Security Administration (SSA) each year that they must pay back thousands, often tens of thousands, of dollars. Many times, the overpayment they have received is no fault of their own – it was a mistake by the SSA.

The NRLN has proposed to Congressional leaders legislation that would prevent, or at least limit, the financial harm to retirees due to SSA’s overpayment.

If you have had to pay money back to SSA due to overpayment, your responses to the following questions will provide the NRLN with data to support our proposals to prevent retirees from being punished for Social Security’s mistakes. Thank you for participating in this survey.
