Participant information statement

Thank you for taking this 15 minute survey on Charter of Rights for Victims of Crime conducted by the ACT Government. Your participation is voluntary and anonymous.

This survey is for community members and people who have experienced crime. If you are an agency or service provider and want to have your say please go to this survey.

What is the Charter of Rights for Victims of Crime?
An ACT Charter of Rights for Victims of Crime will outline:

- rights for victims of crime, including to information, support and participation in the justice system
- the obligations of justice agencies when dealing with people who have experienced crime, and
- a complaints resolution process where a victim complains that a justice agency has not acted in accordance with the Charter.

What will happen to this information?
Survey responses will be used to inform advice to Government about the Charter of Rights for Victims of Crime.

All survey results are anonymous. Every effort will be made so that any information that is obtained in connection with this survey and that can be identified with you will remain confidential. Information will be disclosed only with your permission, except as required by law (for example a Freedom of Information request).

Definition
In this survey ‘victim of crime’ is defined as people who have experienced crime and contacted justice agencies or support services, and their family. Justice agencies include ACT Policing, Victim Support ACT, the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions, ACT Courts and Tribunals, and ACT Corrective Services.

Your participation in the survey may raise issues for you or remind you of experiences that you, a family member or friend, have gone through. A list of support services is available.
