A draft plan to update Redstone Park is ready for your review and input!

OST staff worked with a Steering Committee made up of Redstone and Crystal Valley residents to develop a draft plan to update Redstone Park. Before advancing the design further, we wanted to check in with community members and park users to gather input on the draft plans.

The draft plan proposes a “less is more” approach that continues to balance active and passive programming and provides traditional park amenities such as picnic spaces, a children’s playground, access to the Crystal River, and seasonal features such as summer concerts and winter ice skating. The draft plan graphic and summary below provide an overview of the proposed changes to the park. A more detailed description and zoomed-in views can be viewed HERE. Please take a few minutes to review the draft and provide your input in the survey below.

Question Title

The more substantial proposed changes include:
  • A larger shelter for community events, sited to minimize impacts on views and the connectivity of the lawn area while also accommodating events such as the summer concert series;
  • Improving the north end of the park where the skating rink is set up in the winter with the addition of paths and seat walls to connect the lawn area with the top of the levee, and providing a natural play feature; and
  • Improving the park’s entries and parking areas.
Other elements of the park that are in need of attention and addressed in the draft plan include:
  • Improving access to the river and the river overlook near the pedestrian bridge;
  • Reinforcing/repairing the top of the levee’s rock wall and adding riparian vegetation where feasible;
  • Selectively removing and replanting trees and shrubs to facilitate improved circulation and programming;
  • Consolidating the playground elements to allow for the southern entry path and adding a baby/toddler swing and additional play features; and
  • Adding amenities such as bike parking, a water station, trash and dog pots, a dumpster enclosure, as well as electricity for events and maintenance needs.
The materials suggested on the plan maintain the natural and rustic aesthetic and complement the historic character of Redstone.
