Racial Justice and Design

Purpose of this survey:
This survey is the first part of an ongoing research project, led by the Association for Community Design and supported by the Surdna Foundation, to collect and share information on how design can be used as a tool to advance racial justice. Through this survey, we hope to identify design practices in the U.S. that are using their work to advance racial justice, gain insight into how they approach this work, and build broader understanding of how design practitioners work toward racial justice outcomes. How this survey data will be used:
This survey data will be used to identify design practices for further research whose work focuses on racial justice outcomes, as well as to gather information on the various ways in which design practices of all types use their work to advance racial justice. Our research team will use this survey data to help inform a report exploring the various ways in which design practices work towards racial justice, which will be shared publicly.

Confidentiality and anonymity:
By clicking OK and taking this survey, you are agreeing to allow us to anonymously share survey data; meaning that we will share cumulative data, such as "X number of survey respondents reported that their practice aims to increase racial equity through their work." We promise not to individually identify you or your practice, nor share individual survey responses, without first obtaining your written consent to do so. You will also have the option to answer the survey entirely anonymously, however, we encourage you to share contact information for either you or your practice, so we can follow-up with you to learn more and share findings from this project. If you'd like to remain anonymous, please still take the survey, we welcome any and all contributions that will help our team gain a deeper understanding of this topic.

Offline responses:
If for any reason, you do not feel comfortable responding to this survey online, or would like to contribute to our research by sharing other content or information not contained in this survey, please feel free to contact our team directly by emailing us at research@communitydesign.org - we’re happy to communicate via email or set up a time to speak with you over the phone. We deeply appreciate any and all support and contributions to this important topic.

Before you begin:
Some questions will feel subjective, please think critically about each and be as honest as possible when answering. We welcome as many responses as possible from firms and encourage you to share this with your peers, colleagues, and supervisors to take it as well.
