Aim and Objectives

The aim of this study is to investigate the prescription and fitting of flexible dentures by dentists and the manufacture and fitting of flexible dentures by clinical dental technicians within the United Kingdom.
In order to achieve the aim of this research project, the following objectives have been identified:
  • Survey dentists and CDTs who are members of the College of General Dentistry (UK).
  • Assess dentist’s/CDT’s background.
  • Gain insight into when and where flexible dentures can be used based on their perceived advantages.
  • Assess potential disadvantages which can result from flexible dentures.
  • Make conclusions based on the collected data.
  • In the light of findings, make recommendations for future research and practice.

When are flexible removable prostheses (dentures) prescribed and fitted by Dentists and manufactured and fitted by Clinical Dental Technicians within the UK?

Method of Data Collection

A quantitative approach with a post-positivistic philosophy has been chosen, as it aims to record objective measurements on a given topic and is tied to a set of assumptions related to relativism, social constructionism and subjectivism.

This study will use the online survey service known as SurveyMonkey (www.surveymonkey.com), it will follow the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
