Purpose of this survey:  
The tourism industry is currently facing massive hiring challenges, a culmination of pre-existing issues made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. As former employees have left the industry for other sectors, tourism businesses across Ontario are struggling to hire and/or retain qualified staff. Understanding the factors behind these workforce challenges is crucial to the recovery of the tourism industry.  

The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) is therefore conducting a survey to understand:
1) the reasons why current employees may consider leaving Ontario’s tourism and hospitality industry; and
2) the reasons why former employees have left Ontario’s tourism and hospitality industry.  

We seek your assistance as a current or former tourism and hospitality employee in Ontario to complete this anonymous and confidential survey.  
 
Confidentiality protocol:  
The data collected here will be used to provide updates to the provincial government, in particular the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development and the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism & Culture Industries. The data collected will NOT include identifying information, such as name. We require information about your age, gender, education attainment, and employment status in the tourism industry for demographic purposes only. We require information about your tourism occupation’s sector and region in the province in order to target specific forms of support from the province.  

The data collected here will also be used to inform other levels of government, and to provide the media with information on the scale and scope of the COVID-19 impact on the industry.
