Is your transit agency interested in doing more with your data? Are you looking for better ways to create interactive visualizations to extract and convey business insights from your data? If so, this workshop series may be for you!

This FREE hands-on workshop series, developed for transit agency staff with some data processing experience, will bring together experts and participants to explore:
  • How to create dashboards in Power BI.
  • How to prepare data and metrics for dashboards.
  • Approaches and tools – both fancy and simple! – that can be used to improve dashboard user experience.
Each of these topics will be illustrated with engaging, hands-on activities that will allow participants to explore the concepts and tools they can apply to their home systems.

This workshop series is geared toward transit agency staff with some experience with processing tabular data and creating charts. Workshop instruction will be based in Microsoft Excel and Power BI. Participants should have experience working with data in Excel but do not need to have experience with Power BI. Participants who are familiar with Power BI dashboards can join to get more advanced training on data manipulation and dashboard styling and navigation.

The workshop will include three virtual sessions, each from 2:00-4:30pm Eastern, held three days in a row: June 25-27, 2024. The focus of each day will be:
  • Tuesday, June 25: Dashboard Basics. Learn about different ways dashboards are used and their purposes. Get familiar with Power BI environments and the built-in visualizations as well as developing metrics that you can track and show on your dashboards.
  • Wednesday, June 26: From Data to Dashboard. Learn how dashboards consume data and master the back-end and data connections that your visualizations rely on.
  • Thursday, June 27: Styling and Advanced Dashboard Concepts. Learn how to use Power BI advanced features to create your desired user experience. Learn about using templates, buttons, bookmarks, interactions, and rudimentary coding to help your dashboard users navigate the information you are presenting.
AICP CM credits will be available for the workshop series: 2 CM for each session.

The following pages of this registration form include several survey questions. Your responses will give us valuable input to make the workshop as relevant as possible to you and your agency.

We appreciate the broad interest that exists around this topic. However, this workshop is intended for transit agency practitioners to allow them to freely exchange ideas and discuss best practices. Because N-CATT is a technical assistance center funded by the FTA to support small-urban, rural, and tribal transit agencies, registration priority will be given to small-urban, rural, and tribal transit agencies. Other agencies, members of the private sector, and transit advocacy groups who are interested in the workshop will be placed on the waiting list, with access to the workshop based on availability.

Space is limited, register ASAP to reserve your spot!
