The Delivery Riders Alliance (DRA) is a group of riders & drivers working together to fight for better pay and conditions. In the gig economy, laws are yet to catch up with technology, and workers’ rights are being ignored. Many riders & drivers have concerns about safety, pay and transparency but don’t have the confidence or ability to speak up. That’s why we need to stand together with one strong voice.   • A fair process for riders/drivers who have their accounts suspended or terminated.
  • An independent panel must oversee terminations and consider appeals. Riders/drivers must have the right to appeal.
  • Riders/drivers must be provided full details and given the chance to respond to underperformance (e.g. lateness, slow deliveries, customer/restaurant complaints, etc)

  • Fully funded workers compensation insurance must be provided for riders/drivers and cover all lost income & medical costs if a rider is injured at work.
  • Poor pay and conditions can push riders/drivers to work unsafely in order to survive (working fatigued, speeding, etc). Riders/drivers should be paid enough to earn a living and work safely.
  • Adequate and continuous training must be provided covering safety, road rules and relevant skills.

  • Waiting times are work time and must be paid for.
  • All riders/drivers must be provided a basic minimum wage guarantee. This may be calculated flexibly (e.g an average over a few hours as opposed to rate per hour)
  • Riders/driver's pay must account for total distances travelled.

  • Compensation for repairs and running costs for vehicles. This could be a fixed allowance or a percentage of expenses based on hours worked and would cover petrol, car/scooter/bicycle costs, phone allowances, etc

  • The batching system punishes riders/drivers unfairly and makes it too hard to access work.

  • Order distances and the delivery fee must be shown on all orders prior to a rider accepting an order.
