The Zhi-Xing China Fellowship: U.S.—China University Student Leaders Academy is a three-week study trip to China that aims to inspire and build connections between the next generation of global leaders in the US and China. Jointly implemented by China Education Association for International Exchange and Asia Society, this Fellowship is a highlight of U.S-China People-to-People Exchange and is championed by the US Secretary of State and the Chinese counterpart.

Annually, we select up 50-60 outstanding student leaders, with equal representation from the US and China. Together, they will attend seminars, lectures, field visits, as well as work together on a final capstone project on their findings. These tailor-designed seminars and lectures offer diverse perspectives on China’s culture, history, society, innovation, and political and economic systems. A variety of carefully curated field visits provide interactive and hands-on opportunities for fellows to develop a deep understanding of China.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic credentials, leadership potential, and the ability to act on emerging opportunities. Chinese language proficiency is not required. We look for candidates who are willing to contribute to this Fellowship network both during and after the program.
  • Undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited American university or college
  • Academic excellence and strong leadership competencies
  • Currently in a senior leadership position of a student-led organization, preferred
  • An open mind and a desire to broaden their understanding of China and the world
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The Fellowship will take place in China on July 21-August 7, 2020 and cannot be deferred. US participants may need to arrive in China 1-2 days prior to the start of the program.
