PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE CANCER SURVEY
Part 1 of 4: About the Survey and General Questions
Access to cancer screening and care can be inconsistent and difficult. In particular, Indigenous families in Prince Albert face a multitude of personal, situational, cultural, and systemic barriers to cancer services and support. Our goal is to engage cancer survivors, as well as health and human service professionals, in a conversation around some of the barriers and challenges that impact access to cancer screening and care. Some examples of the barriers we have examined are listed in the following table.
For definition purposes only:
Personal Barriers
stress; distrust for system; difficult personality; lack of self-awareness; depression
Situational Barriers
lack of transportation; no childcare; low income; demanding job; social isolation
Cultural Barriers
language differences; personal beliefs; insensitivity; personal experience
Systemic Barriers
service gaps; funding limitations; staff shortages; turnover; jurisdictional matters
The inputs from community members are important to inform the project. We are using two separate surveys to obtain the community input. Please fill in both surveys as you deem appropriate: A Professional Knowledge Cancer Survey for health and human service professionals (which is this survey); and a Personal Knowledge Cancer Survey for every community member to share her or his knowledge (www.surveymonkey.com/r/W3ZXMTK).
Completion of this survey is voluntary. Results of the survey will be reported in the aggregate. All responses will be kept anonymous, confidential, and will not be made attributable to someone’s name, profession or place of employment.
