Requirements and Deadlines

The Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) is inviting proposals from industry experts interested in presenting at IBPA Publishing University 2022 in-person or virtually (...or both in-person and virtually!). The deadline to apply is October 31, 2021.

How it will work:
Through a unique hybrid event, IBPA Publishing University 2022 attendees can register for 2 days of virtual programming (April 20-21, 2022) on the Attendify event platform and 2 days of in-person events at the Renaissance Orlando on Sea Harbor Drive in Orlando, Florida (April 29-30, 2022). To round out the experience, a full day of Orlando, Florida-based field trips is being planned for Sunday, May 1, 2022.

How to submit a speaker proposal:
IBPA is accepting speaker proposals for both the virtual and in-person components focusing on all aspects of book publishing. The following is especially encouraged:
  • Proposals featuring original content and/or research.
  • Proposals considering and promoting discussions of diversity and inclusion, particularly ones that challenge our norms and seek to create procedures and practices that ensure safe and welcoming environments within our organizations and the publishing industry at-large.
  • Proposals focusing on key aspects of the business of publishing. Please write all proposals -- and plan to present all sessions -- from a publisher's point of view, as opposed to an author's point of view.
  • Proposals featuring real-life scenarios that communicate the organization’s challenges and the demonstrated strategies used to resolve them.
  • Proposals featuring checklists, implementation guides, sample policies, action plans, or other tools that attendees can use to implement the knowledge gained in the session.
  • Proposals offering concrete and replicable ideas, actionable advice, and nuts and bolts.
In addition, proposals for the virtual part of the program should feature thoughtful ways to engage the audience using a virtual platform.

Please note:
  • Proposals focused on the craft of writing will not be considered.
  • Proposals promoting company products or services will not be considered; however, proposals explaining the underlying technologies used in services will be considered.
  • Accepted speakers will receive a complimentary ALL ACCESS ticket to IBPA Publishing University 2022.
  • IBPA is not able to cover travel expenses for speakers choosen to participate in the in-person portion of the conference.
Proposals must be submitted by Sunday, October 31, 2021. In order to be fair to all applicants, this deadline will not be extended.

Applicants can submit as many proposals as they'd like. Once a proposal is submitted, click DONE and you'll find a link to reenter the proposal system.

Applicants who would like to alter/update their proposal(s) after submission can do so by emailing changes to Angela Bole at angela@ibpa-online.org.

IBPA reserves the right to include additional speakers, edit titles and descriptions, and replace moderators as deemed necessary for the overall success of IBPA Publishing University and the accepted proposal. All such improvements will be reviewed with each applicant.

Applicants will be notified no later than December 15, 2021 of the status of their submission via email to the address provided in this proposal.
