This year's ParkRx Day is focused on engaging and thanking health care providers for bringing their patients outdoors for better health!
When: Sunday, April 28, 2019
Where: Parks and public lands across the country with greenspace and/or open space. For example, national parks, state parks, regional parks, county and city parks as well as other federal lands (national forests, national grasslands, recreation areas, national wildlife refuges, etc.).
Why: To amplify the visibility of the nation-wide Park Rx movement in parks and communities across the nation and celebrate National Park Week (April 20-28, 2019). Park Rx is a community health initiative to “prescribe” time in parks to prevent and treat chronic disease and promote wellness ──and create the next generation of park supporters, visitors, and advocates in the process.
How: Create an event with activities to connect people to the health benefits of being in the great outdoors.
Here are a few simple ideas:

Here are a few simple ideas:
- Walks with doctors and patients to nearby parks on trails
- Patient-centered events, with free transportation from health provider locations to parks
- Offer health screenings
- Community-focused events with a variety of games and activities for all ages and abilities
- Active recreation activities in parks where permitted (zumba, bike riding, hiking, soccer, basketball, frisbee, volleyball, etc.)
- Activities to promote relaxation, and mental health and well-being (yoga, tai chi, meditation)
- Offer healthy food and beverage choices
Remember to invite local health providers, national public land managers, community and other nonprofits for your event.

Applications for the 2019 NEEF Health and the Natural Environment Grant are open until March 1st! To qualify for a mini-grant, you must have the US Forest Service and a health care provider as planning partners in your ParkRx Day event. Read the FAQ to see if your event is eligible.
