Curtin University invites you to participate in a study that is looking at how people who are blind or have low vision use their smart phones to help them navigate through urban environments. In this part of the study, we are interested in the usage patterns and experience of using a smartphone for people with low vision or blindness. We aim to gather insights into how important the smartphone is for Australians with blindness or low vision, what they use their device for, what limitations or obstacles they face, and what might make the smartphone more useful and accessible for them.

We want to find out whether smartphones do increase equality and accessibility for people who are blind or have low vision, and what currently limits the use of these devices. Lastly, we want to know if smartphones may, for some people, exacerbate experiences of disability, and if so, how this might be addressed.

We would like to invite anyone who experiences low vision or blindness to participate in this survey and share their experience of using a smartphone. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes and comprises of 24 questions.

Your participation in this survey will contribute to the first in-depth research conducted in Australia on smartphone use in the blind community.

The project is being conducted in collaboration with Vision Australia. For smartphone assistance and advice, please contact 1300 84 74 66.
