Ohio's Early Learning & Development Standards Introduction
Welcome to the public input survey for Ohio's Early Learning & Development Standards. This survey is designed to receive input from individuals who have examined the standards within one or more of the five domains of school readiness. The purpose of these standards is to support the development and well-being of young children and to foster their learning. This survey will be open to receive stakeholder input through Monday, June 29, 2012.
The standards were developed in collaboratively under the leadership of the Ohio Departments of Developmental Disabilities, Education, Health, Job and Family Services, and Mental Health. The Early Learning & Development Standards present a continuum of learning and development from birth to kindergarten entry in each of the five domains. The infant/toddler period is marked by rapid developmental change. To capture these changes, standards are articulated at three meaningful transition points during infant/toddlers: Infants (at around 8 months), Young Toddlers (at around 18 months), and Older Toddlers (at around 36 months). Developments during the preschool years are articulated in Ohio's existing Pre-Kindergarten Standards, which describe what children are expected to know and be able to do at the end of preschool period.
