We're excited to have you take part in the second and final public survey for the Downtown wayfinding signage project. The results will help us with our wayfinding plan for Downtown Castle Rock, which is the first of many projects aimed at improving mobility, enhancing recreational activity, providing vehicle guidance and increasing roadway safety.
Background

In December 2022, an online public survey was conducted Townwide to provide insight into the community's vision for improved wayfinding. Participants were given a series of questions and shown inspirational images. They were then asked to provide feedback on preferred design styles, materials and colors.

Participants responded by describing Downtown as a charming, friendly place with a mix of architecture and design styles. Some expressed a fear of losing the quaint character of Castle Rock, so the historic origins and the surrounding natural environment were considered in the development of the sign family concepts.

Survey participants preferred natural, authentic materials and a clean, timeless design. There was a strong aversion to bright colors, slick finishes and passing trends.

Question Title

Words most frequently used by participants to describe the character of Downtown and how it should be reflected:

A word cloud graphic with a collage of words, using adjectives such as natural, historic and small town feel.
Sign Family Concept 1

The largest signs in Sign Family Concept 1 are fabricated using individual changeable message panels attached to a large accent (back) panel. This will allow flexibility for future updates without replacing the entire sign. The rust patina on the accent panels eliminates the need for painting and cleaning. The unique silhouette at the top of the signs makes this sign system easy to recognize and memorable. All message panels on vehicular signs will have reflective white text and arrows with a contrasting dark background. Other signs in this family are similar in design.

Question Title

Instead, the Town logo is integrated into the sign face layout. All message panels on vehicular signs will have reflective white text and arrows with a contrasting dark background.
