Workshop Description

School-age children may face a number of challenges, including bullying by peers and understandable difficulty coming to terms with their speech differences. The purpose of this advanced workshop is to address ways that speech-language pathologists can address these challenges. The first part of the course will describe a six-part therapy approach that is designed to minimize the occurrence and impact of bullying for school-age children. The second part of the course will discuss specific counseling skills and strategies that clinicians can implement to help children cope more easily and more effectively with the fact that they stutter. Together, the two parts of this presentation will help clinicians build on their existing knowledge and enhance their ability to help school-age children successfully navigate stuttering, both in the clinical setting and beyond.
