Notice: This survey is hosted on surveymonkey.com and conducted by Strategic Diversity Initiatives.
You must be 18 years or older to participate.
Thank you for participating in this survey to assess the College of Social Science (College) climate around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). To continue advancing our climate to align with our Community Code of Conduct, we are inviting all members of our community to participate in this climate survey. We hope that the survey responses will be reflective of students, faculty, and staff of all ages, gender identities, races and ethnicities, sexualities, abilities, and nationalities. Your perspective and experiences are important, as everyone plays a role in creating an inclusive environment. Your participation will provide important information about our climate that will inform our strategic plan to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion for our entire College community - students, faculty, academic staff, and professional staff.

This survey is being conducted by an outside consulting firm, Strategic Diversity Initiatives (SDI). Individual responses are anonymous. Your participation is entirely voluntary. Other than selecting your primary role (Question 1), no question is required, and you may choose to skip any other question.

In order to help us understand and describe how experiences in the College may differ across various groups, at the end of the survey we will ask you to provide some background information about yourself. We understand that for some people this may raise concerns about anonymity, and—as with other questions--you are free to leave a question unanswered for any reason. Please note that responses cannot be adjusted after exiting the survey. Please also note that individual responses are anonymous. Any report on the responses will be aggregated and summarized into themes. The findings from this survey will be shared in such a way that no one comment can be traced back to an individual, as all identifying information will be removed. Your IP address is not being tracked or recorded.

This survey does not constitute reporting harassment or discrimination. MSU Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) welcomes anyone to file a report, including students, faculty, staff, and guests. Reports involving the Anti-Discrimination Policy and Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Policy may be filed online via the Public Incident Reporting Form or by calling OIE at 517-353-3922 between the hours of 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
For the purposes of this survey, definitions drawn from MSU’s Office of Institutional Diversity 2022 report will guide our work:

Diversity: To ensure our varied collective and individual identities and differences are represented, affirmed, and valued.

Equity: To ensure access to resources that promote success and address past and present educational and professional disparities.

Inclusion: To intentionally include and welcome people who have historically been excluded. Inclusion is demonstrated by an intentional commitment to ensure access for diverse identities, perspectives, and voices.

We value your candid assessment and feedback. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. This is a college-wide survey, but many of the questions will ask you to consider your experiences in your primary unit (e.g., major, department, school, center, institute, program) in the College of Social Science. For example, students please consider your experiences in the primary major you are completing within the College of Social Science. Although we ask you to consider experiences in your primary unit (e.g., major, department, school, center, institute, program), we do not ask you to identify your primary unit in order to maintain anonymity.
