Call for Proposals: MOVE 2017
We invite you to submit a breakout session proposal for MOVE 2017: An Arab American Summit to Advance Social Change, November 16 – 18, 2017 in Metro Detroit, Michigan. MOVE 2017 is a national summit that will convene community leaders, activists, organizations, artists, philanthropists, academics, and students to build leadership, elevate the voice of Arab Americans, raise the profile of Arab American artists, and identify innovative solutions to the most pressing issues impacting our communities across the United States. MOVE is hosted by ACCESS and jointly convened by the National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC), the Arab American National Museum (AANM), and the Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) – the three national ACCESS institutions.
Session Themes
  • DIWAN (arts): Arab American artists, scholars, and performers representing myriad academic fields and artistic genres explore the boundaries of art in addressing social issues related to Arab Americans and the community at large.
  • Activism: Activists and others interested in building a movement to impact issues facing the Arab American community learn from experienced individuals and from each other how about key issues and how to work effectively together to raise their voices and create change.
  • Organizational development: Nonprofit leaders learn how to improve the management of their organizations and strengthen their programs to advance their mission.
  • Philanthropy: Participants will increase their knowledge on charitable giving, passing on a legacy of giving to the next generation, and issues facing Arab American organizations and the philanthropic sector, while networking with others and learning how to use philanthropy to solve problems and address issues that matter to them and their families.
  • Building youth leadership: High school youth in the Arab American community will come together for sharing, learning, and relationship building. Primarily youth led, this track will focus on many facets of youth leadership development including advocacy and youth programming.
