BHUAR Workforce Survey

The mission of the Behavioral Health Unfinished Agenda of Reform (BHUAR) Workforce Action Team is to identify innovative ways to enhance the behavioral health workforce and support providers working in community-based, institutional, and other levels of care while increasing and improving timely and more effective access to mental health and substance use disorder services for patients across the continuum.

After reviewing existing provider resources and the scale of mental health workforce needs, the BHUAR Workforce Action Team has chosen to first concentrate on the significant shortage of psychiatrists and social workers. As an initial step, our Action Team is conducting the following survey to assess the mental health workforce needs associated with services typically provided by psychiatry and social work personnel.

The goal of this survey is to identify key barriers faced by these two provider types as well as identify best practices that have been implemented to increase the number of practicing providers as well as enhance access to the services psychiatrists and social workers provide. For example, are there collaborative models of care that have been developed to allow other providers to work in coordination with psychiatrists and/or social workers to expand access to services? To assist our efforts, we ask that you please review and complete the following survey. We encourage all individual practitioners and social workers, as well as those who work for a larger organization to please respond.

Please note that all individual survey responses will remain confidential and any results released will be reported in aggregate form.

As our Action Team continues to investigate strategies that could expand access to behavioral health services across the continuum of care, it is critical that we capture the provider perspective and respectfully request that you complete the survey below by Friday, August 18th, 2017. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact Janice Peters at jpeters@mhalink.org.
