The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability (the Coal Loader) is an exciting place to learn about all aspects of sustainability. The Coal Loader Sustainability Learners Guide provides a valuable resource to schools to participate in outdooor learning experiences through self guided or facilitated excursions. Schools who wish to visit the Coal Loader are asked to book a day with us and to use the online Learners Guide to help them prepare for their visit.
The Coal Loader Sustainability Learners Guide has topics and activities in subject areas such as History, English, Science, Maths and Geography.
Organising Your Day
1. Self Guided Excursion - Visiting teachers can devise their own activities or run activities from the Coal Loader Sustainability Learners Guide. Bookings are preferred for this.
2. Facilitator Guided Excursions - This option allow schools to engage a facilitator to guide them through their excursion at the Coal Loader. Excursions are usually broken up into three (or sometimes four) parts: a sustainability/heritage component (for which a Coal Loader staff member can guide), an indigenous component (for which the school must engage a facilitator, details can be provided) and a teacher lead activity (for which teachers may use the Leaners Guide for inspiration). This however is a suggestion only and can be tailored to individual schools.
3. Non North Sydney schools may book one day per school per year for facilitator guided excursions with Coal Loader staff at no charge, which may include up to four rotations of up to 40 students per group (we can accept up to 150 students per day). For larger groups which require more than one day, the school will need to pay for a facilitator for additional days (which can be organised by Coal Loader staff).
