This award was established to provide funding for food educational presentations made by a dietitian or dietetic technician as well as provide funding for culinary educational enrichment for a dietitian or dietetic technician. Funds are available for dietetic professionals new to their careers, as well as those who are seasoned and wish to expand their knowledge and experiences.

Background of award:

Purpose of Award:
  • Educational stipend for food and culinary lectureships
  • Educational stipend for professional development in food and culinary
  • Attendance at educational conference for professional development
This award is not intended as a scholastic/scholarship award for a degree program. For providing educational lectureships, travel and related expenses will be funded for educational presentations on topics of food and culinary interest at various educational venues, including demonstrations, workshops, seminars, symposia and conferences.

The amount of award is determined by investment return of the fund endowment and will not be more than 75% of the combined travel and related expenses.


For participating in culinary educational experiences:

Registration fees and travel expenses will be funded for short-term study, including workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, and course work. The amount of award is determined by investment return of the fund endowment and will not be more than 75% of the combined registration fee and travel expenses.

Preference:

Preference is given to applicants who have served in leadership positions within the Food and Culinary Professionals DPG, the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (district, state, national) and additional food and culinary professional organizations.

Preference will be given to educational experiences that would be of benefit to other FCP members. Recipients will be asked to present information from their lectureship and/or educational activity in one or more of the following ways:
• At an FCP event during the FNCE conference
• In an FCP Tastings newsletter article
• In an article on the FCP website

Reviewers will score applications based on the following criteria:
  • The extent to which the applicant has served in FCP related leadership positions—5 points possible
  • The extent to which the applicant has demonstrated that either a) knowledge shared through a lectureship will extend the FCP mission or b) knowledge gained through the educational program will apply to their professional goals—15 points possible
  • The extent to which the knowledge gained through the a) lectureship will extend the FCP mission or
Specific Submission Guidelines:

The applicant must:
  • Be a Registered Dietitian or Dietetic Technician, Registered;
  • Be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Food and Culinary Professionals DPG for at least two years; 
  • Demonstrate that the knowledge gained through either a) the educational presentation or b) the educational program will apply to the applicant’s professional goals.
Required uploads: 
  • an official cover letter requesting support
  • documentation of the event(s) they plan to lecture and/or attend

Recipients:

Recipients must return a report to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation documenting either their a) lectureship appointment or b) educational program attendance.
