East Bay Regional Park District partners with the City of Martinez

San Francisco Bay Trail Project Martinez MapThe East Bay Regional Park District is partnering with the City of Martinez to build a section of the San Francisco Bay Trail in Martinez.

The San Francisco Bay Trail is currently 350 miles and the vision is to complete 500 miles of multi-use trails through 47 cities, across bridges, and along shorelines circling the San Francisco Bay.

The project will construct a ½ mile, ten-foot-wide, paved, multi-use trail from the Nejedly Staging Area/Carquinez Regional Shoreline Park on Carquinez Scenic Drive down along the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way to the existing railroad crossing at Berrellesa Street. The trail continues north on Berrellesa Street to the Granger’s Wharf Staging Area and into the Martinez Regional Shoreline and also connects to the Martinez Train Station.

The project also includes safety improvements to the Berrellesa Street railroad crossing including new pedestrian traffic control devices, emergency entry gates for pedestrian and bicyclists, additional signage, additional curbs, relocated/refreshed roadway markings and fencing, and a signalized crosswalk to control bike/pedestrian traffic from and to the new trail segment.
