‘INSIGHTS IN BODY ESTEEM’
Exploring people’s experience of body image

This study is part of the work of the Butterfly Foundation on body image. It aims to find out about Australians’ experiences of body image and its impact in their day to day lives.

If you are over the age of 18 and live in Australia, you are invited to complete the following online questionnaire that asks about who you are, what you feel about your body and how that might have an impact on you. Sharing your experience will allow us to better understand the impact of body image and improve the way we provide programs about body image to make them as meaningful and useful as possible.

The questions will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary. You are welcome to decline to answer particular questions and can withdraw from completing the survey at any time without consequence.

You might find some of the questions uncomfortable, personal or upsetting. If this survey brings up questions or concerns for you, please contact the Butterfly Foundation National Helpline on 1800 33 4673 or visit https://www.thebutterflyfoundation.org.au/our-services/talk-to-someone/chat-online/ to access free support, advice and counselling.

The study will gather certain information about you. This information will be held by the Butterfly Foundation. We will not collect your name or other identifying information and you will be anonymous. All information you provide will be treated in the strictest confidence and none of the participants will be individually identifiable in any data, results, reports or other publications. While it is being collected information will be stored within SurveyMonkey, which is located overseas. The regulations governing the data while it is stored overseas may not be the same as those in place in Australia. Your data will then be stored by Butterfly Foundation within Australia for 5 years after the completion of the study and may be accessed by Butterfly Foundation employees who are working with the project. At the end of this storage period your data will be destroyed.

If you have any questions about the survey, the study, your data, or how the results will be used you can contact the Butterfly Foundation on info@thebutterflyfoundation.org.au, or on (02) 9412 4499. A summary of the findings will be posted on www.thebutterflyfoundation.org.au website when they are available.
