Introduction to the Public Consultation

The Department of Education and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth are engaging in a consultation process as part of the development of the successor strategy to the National Strategy Literacy and Numeracy for Learning and Life 2011 – 2020 and the Interim Review of the Strategy (2017-2020).

We would like your ideas on how we can improve awareness of services, information and supports. We would appreciate your input on what a new strategy for literacy, numeracy and digital literacy should prioritise and how we should measure our success over the next 10 years.

It is not necessary to provide answers to every question. You will have the opportunity to provide additional feedback at the end if you wish.

BACKGROUND
This consultation is part of a wider process to develop a new strategy for literacy, numeracy and digital literacy for  children and young people. As we consider the systemic successes and challenges of the Literacy and Numeracy for Learning and Life Strategy (2011-2020) and plan for the next phase of development, it is timely to gather feedback on experiences at early learning and care (ELC), primary and post-primary levels.

Significant progress has been made since 2011. This is due to the commitment of early years educators and ELC managers, teachers and school leaders, support staff and boards of management and all other education stakeholders and partners. But most especially due to the commitment of parents*, families, children and young people themselves.

We are now looking to the future and seeking your views on what literacy, numeracy and digital literacy mean to you as we progress in the 21st century.
In addition to completing this series of questions, interested individuals or organisations can make a longer written submission. Please email submissions to LNDLconsultation@h2.ie.
