Grant Overview

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB)

The League is accepting proposals for DEIB initiatives that can be achieved with at least a $10,000 grant. Budgets can be larger than the grant amount. The application process will not be lengthy. The reporting process will not be difficult. But the award process will be competitive because we know LHAT members are exceptionally creative.

Work can begin before a grant is awarded, but the bulk of your project must be completed by the end of 2024. If awarded, you will be required to attend and present a session at the 2024 LHAT National Conference (location TBD). You must begin your project early enough so that you can report on your progress at the LHAT 2024 National Conference, but you do not have to conclude your project in its entirety before the conference. You will also be asked to submit an article describing your progress. This article will be published in one of the quarterly InLeague magazines.

We are open to all ideas. Just be aware that there are only three grants to be given and you will be competing with the very best historic theatres in the nation. We can’t wait to see what you propose.

Question Title

* Are you a member in good standing with the League of Historic American Theatres?  Note: to submit an application your current membership dues for 2023 must be paid in full or you must be current on your installment plan.  If you are not sure, please email info@lhat.org to confirm you are eligible to apply.

Question Title

Question Title

* Please describe your community:

Terms used to refer to racial and ethnic groups continue to change over time. One reason for this is simply personal preference; preferred designations are as varied as the people they name. Another reason is that designations can become dated over time and may hold negative connotations. When describing racial and ethnic groups, LHAT tries to be appropriately specific and sensitive to issues of labeling as described in general principles for reducing bias. Please describe your community to the best of your ability realizing that these descriptors will only be used for comparison purposes with other applications.

Set each scale below on an approximate percentage that each population holds within your community. We leave it up to you to define the geographic community you serve.

Question Title

* Please upload (PDF files only) a narrative about your DEIB initiative. We don’t expect your proposal to cover it all. Some of you might be taking your first few steps, while others might be adding a final piece to what has already happened at your organization. Dream big, but be specific. We are just as excited about one step being done really well as we are about many steps being taken.

Word count for this document must not exceed 1,200 words.

Ideally, we would fund projects that could be replicated by other theatres or at least inspire other theatres to pursue their DEIB goals.

Be sure to include how you will measure success. We know that what you think might happen might actually not happen the way you envisioned, or it might not happen at all.  Start with a good idea.  If it doesn’t work, that’s ok.  We can all learn from what worked as well as what didn’t.

And remember, you are defining DEIB based on your organization and your community. We are open to differing interpretations.

Important:  Make sure the name of your organization is written at the top or in the header of your document. Again, we can only use a pdf. file here.
