ASAM and CARF International are partnering to offer a certification program to discretely identify residential levels of care, 3.1 Clinically-Managed Low Intensity Treatment, 3.5 Clinically-Managed High Intensity Residential Treatment, and 3.7 Medically-Monitored Intensive Inpatient Services.  This certification is designed to promote compliance with The ASAM Criteria that is transparent to patients, regulators, and payors, and helps to promote best-practices in the field.

This pilot project is an opportunity for you to be one of the very first in the industry to receive this distinguished certification.  ASAM and CARF are seeking programs that meet specific criteria for the pilot program that represent diversity in the field.  Examples of this diversity are constructs such as geography, size, payor mix, and regulatory environments, just to name a few.

The pilot program will test the viability of the certification program elements, process, and policies and procedures.  Pilot participants will enjoy the opportunity to provide feedback to ensure that once the program is offered more broadly, it reflects the best product for the industry.

Selected providers who agree to participate in this pilot program will commit to the following:

  • Complete an application for certification to CARF International.
  • Participate in an online learning collaborative offered by ASAM to assist providers to successfully achieve certification.
  • Participate in a one-day, onsite certification survey in Spring or Summer 2019.
  • Provide feedback to ASAM and CARF about the effectiveness of the process and the specific elements measured.
  • Provide feedback to ASAM about the usefulness of publications (elements manual and workbook) and trainings created to help treatment programs prepare for certification.
  • Serve as a reference site to other organizations that consider certification.

Once we have a list of all interested providers, we will notify selected participants.  We make no guarantees of your participation in the pilot program.  It is anticipated that selected participants will be notified in April of their selection and will be directed on how to complete the application.
