Welcome to the Pay Equity Survey by the University of California-Los Angeles and Jess Watts, Brand Strategy Consultant. While much research has pointed to the existence of a gender pay gap between men and women, the extent of this gap in the advertising industry is less clear. The purpose of this survey is to understand–for the first time in the United States–the current state of pay equity in the advertising industry. You were selected to participate in this survey because you work in advertising in America. If you agree to participate, we will ask you to fill out the survey. It will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

The survey includes questions around demographics (age, race, gender, role in ad industry etc.), your salary, and around your perceptions of potential pay disparities in your place of employment.

Your survey responses will form the foundation to enable and encourage future initiatives to improve the working climate in advertising workplaces.

Confidentiality

Participants’ identities and affiliations are confidential and unknown to the survey researchers. The survey will not ask for your name. The survey will not ask the name of the place where you are employed. Study data will be physically and electronically secured, but as with any use of electronic means to store data, there is always a risk of breach of data security. Your data, including de-identified data may be kept for use in future research.

Potential Discomforts

Answering questions about salaries and the potential for disparities in pay based on identity may make you feel uncomfortable. You do not have to complete the survey if at any point you do not wish to continue.

Rights

Participation in the survey is completely voluntary. You have the right to decline to participate or to withdraw at any point in this study. You may choose to skip any question in the survey that you do not wish to answer.
