Marijuana Business Daily (MJBizDaily), since 2011 the best-known producer of B2B news and trade shows serving executives and major investors in America's $8 billion cannabis industry, is seeking a Senior Copywriter who can also be an Assistant Creative Director to a fast-growing, high-volume marketing department. This is a great opportunity to take our direct response marketing to the next level.

This is a new position for the company and will report directly to the head of marketing with one direct report (a junior copywriter). You’ll work closely with colleagues in conversion rate optimization, social marketing, branding, PR and content marketing.

You and your team will be responsible for copy that converts site visitors into email opt-ins; social followers into buyers; email newsletter readers into book purchasers; and thousands of industry professionals into paid registrants for our trade shows. Your copy will appear on email campaigns, paid ads, landing pages, eCommerce forms as well as on print materials (I.e. direct postal mail), podcast spoken ads and customer service scripts.

Note: this is *not* a content marketing position, although you’ll coordinate with that department. Instead this requires significant experience in creative direct response. As such, you should have experience and deep interest in:

  • Persona-based copy and strategy
  • A/B copy testing in email and on landing pages with examples in your portfolio
  • eCommerce copy (copy that drives an immediate online conversion)
  • Optimizing PPC and social ad copy
  • Lead generation campaign copy
  • Copy that drives qualified opt-ins
  • An understanding of marketing funnel architecture and how to pull people through it
  • Working closely with Design to optimize response rates
Applicants with b-to-b experience preferred as long as that experience includes measured copy tests with direct response objectives. Candidates who have mentored and supervised junior copywriters and/or creative teams are also preferred. Your department is high volume, so assigning and managing execution of multiple campaigns is a critical skill. Experience writing copy for international audiences is a plus.
