Scholarship Application Form-Semester 1 2018/2019

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding a three-year Local Capacity for Local Solutions project geared at improving the managerial and operational capacity of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean (ESC). The project will utilize innovative methods that support organizations to be more efficient, effective and sustainable. RTI International is the prime implementer of the project and the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) is a major partner. Countries that the project targets include: 1) Antigua and Barbuda; 2) Barbados; 3) Dominica; 4) Grenada; 5) Guyana; 6) St. Kitts and Nevis; 7) St. Lucia; 8) St. Vincent and the Grenadines; 9) Suriname; and 10) Trinidad and Tobago.

The project will build the hard and soft skills of NGOs working in the focal areas of environment, HIV/AIDS, youth/citizen security and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or intersex (LGBTI).  

Scholarship Offer:
The Local Capacity for Local Solutions project is offering 40 scholarships to NGO personnel to pursue an online NGO Management Certificate Course delivered by the University of the West Indies, Open Campus. The Certificate course consists of two courses: MGMT 073: Essentials of NGO Management and MGMT 074: Developing and Managing Projects and are expected to be undertaken concurrently.

Scholarships will only be provided to students who have applied to UWI Open Campus for the NGO Management course and have received an offer letter for Semester 1. 

Applicants should have:
·        Five (5) CXC subjects or equivalent, an associate degree or relevant professional experience at the management level or higher.
·        A minimum of two (2) years professional experience working in a Non-Governmental Organisation/ Community-Based Organisation or related field.
·        Must work in the focal areas identified (climate change, HIV/AIDS, youth/citizen security, LGBTI, or gender) and be based in one of the ten target project countries. 

Priority for scholarships will be given to applicants working in the area of youth & citizen security. Work in this area should have the overall objective of reducing youth involvement in crime and violence and can include interventions targeting at-risk youth and communities, the provision of education, employment and skills building activities for youth, crime prevention initiatives and efforts aimed at juvenile justice reform. 

A letter of endorsement from the supporting organisation is required, which indicates the nature of the relationship between the applicant and the endorsing organization, the reason for endorsing the applicant and the expected benefits to the organisation from the applicant's participation. (Please note your application will not be reviewed without the letter of endorsement. Candidates are expected to be endorsed by the organisation that they are employed or volunteer with.)
