Committee Information

All ABCGN committee volunteers are awarded 3 GI Specific contact hours per year, the maximum allowable hours per recertification cycle are 12. These hours are classified under category 12.
Item Writing Committee:
ABCGN is currently looking to recruit 14 new item writers.

The Item-writing Panel writes new test items (questions), which reflect current practice in gastroenterology nursing. Training is provided for this committee.

Eligibility requirements include the following
  • Certified Registered Nurse
  • CGRN Certification
  • Employed in gastroenterology nursing practice
  • Computer literate
  • Minimum 20 hours a year of independent item writing
  • Minimum 10 items per year submission
  • Access to computer
This committee term is 2 years.

Item/Form Review Committee:
ABCGN is currently looking to recruit 3 new item/form reviewers.

The Item Review Committee reviews all test items for content accuracy, verification of correct answers, appropriateness for entry-level competence, and appropriate link to the test plan. Training is provided for this committee.

Eligibility requirements include the following:
  • Certified Registered Nurse
  • CGRN Certification
  • Employed in gastroenterology nursing practice
  • Minimum 20 hours a year (for in person and virtual meetings)
  • Travel for one in person meeting February/March of each year.
  • Access to computer
The committee term is 2 years.

Recertification/GI Audit Committee:
ABCGN is currently looking to recruit 8 new auditors.

Qualified, highly motivated and professionally committed nurses are needed to assist in re-certification application audits and GI-specific application reviews (to include SGNA annual course and webinars). Please review the following qualifications for committee members prior to submitting your applications

Eligibility requirements include the following:
  • Certified Registered Nurse
  • CGRN Certification
  • Employed in gastroenterology nursing practice
  • Have gone through at least one re-certification process (not by testing)
  • Access to computer
  • Minimum 10 hours a year (all work is done virtually)
