Junior Achievement (JA) is partnering with your school and local professionals to plan a Career Day on Wednesday, November 6th.  There will be a variety of guest speakers sharing information about their education, careers, skills needed for their field, and related demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Business Consultant - Business consultants generally meet with clients and provide help to them in areas such as marketing, human resources, management, finance and accounting. They frequently travel. They are responsible for improving companies' operations by assessing weaknesses and recommending business solutions.
Attorney/Lawyer - Do you like to help others with their problems?  Do you like to argue for a position?  Want to learn what its really like to be a lawyer representing all types of people and companies?  Is being a lawyer really what it looks like on TV?  Come hear about my experiences as a lawyer!
Real Estate Attorney - Are you competitive? Do you like a challenge? Want to own your own business? As an attorney I solve different and unique problems for clients nearly every day. Rather than going to court, I create contracts and meet with government agencies like the City of Naperville to present the contract ideas and help negotiate a good solution so clients can build new offices/facilities or grow their business.  We'll talk about some of the cool new buildings going up in Naperville.
Teacher - Come learn about the jobs in education and why Mr. Morrissey loves teaching!  Teaching is a great career for those that want to help others achieve their potential, whether in the classroom, in sports, or after school activities.  Teachers can work with the very young, elementary, junior high, high school or college level.  Summers off are a bonus! Director of College Academic Services/Technology - Online learning is a huge industry! I help colleges design courses for their online students. We'll talk about educational technology and how we design courses to maximize student learning. We'll see some of these programs.  Since I work in a college environment I will share tips and thoughts to consider for college selection and application process.
Market Research - Have you ever been asked to complete a survey? Are you curious what happens with the responses you give? Do you like to analyze data and create reports to present in front of a group? Do you want to be involved in giving guidance and consultation that will determine how companies will market their products through advertising?
Physical Therapist - Do you know how the human body works? Do you want to learn how to fix it or make it work at its best potential ? Are you interested in medicine but don’t like the sight of blood? Would like to be a doctor, but spend less years in college than a medical doctor? Come check out a day in the life of a Physical Therapist.
Physical Therapist & Professor at NIU - Physical Therapists help people of all ages use their body better, such as people after accidents, surgery, disability or just helping people learn to balance better.  This Physical Therapist also teaches at Northern Illinois University.
Environmental Sciences - The world is changing at a very fast pace & the planet's resources are not being successfully managed in a sustainable way by us, i.e. countries/parties/multinationals/big & small businesses/regular citizens/hunters, etc. My presentation is aimed at creating awareness of the challenges we face and to spark an interest in environmental sciences & the opportunities for a fun job of a lifetime.
Theoretical Physicist - You may be curious: What is the Universe made of? What are the smallest building blocks that everything is made of? What is Dark Matter? Are there extra dimensions of space? I work as a scientist at Fermilab and my job is to think about these and other questions. I use math & computers to figure stuff out every day. Some famous people in my career: Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein...can you be the next one? If not, just learn what it's like.
Project Engineer - "Do you like a challenge? Do you want to make a difference?  Are you creative and want to make things?  Come learn about Engineering!"  I have done many different jobs in Engineering so I will share about the variety of jobs that you can do. I work at Navistar which makes trucks and buses, but Engineering exists in SO MANY industries.
Chemical Engineer - They are in charge of finding, transforming, and producing all the materials and energy that shape our world. This field is for people who like to ask “How is it made?” Math and science are keys to success. Equally important are communication, logic, and problem solving. Chemical Engineering is ranked the #1 college major for highest starting salary by US News 2019.
Owner of Automotive/Car Repair Shop - Do you like cars? Working with your hands?  Good at figuring out problems and good with technology?  You should think about being an auto mechanic. 
Construction Industry - Employment in the construction industry is projected to grow much faster than all occupations. As older workers are retiring, there will be so many work opportunities. There is a wide variety of jobs: construction manager, architects, plumbers, electricians, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), welders, iron work, painters, sheet metal, pipefitters, concrete, roofing, and many more.
Electrician (install and maintain electrical equipment, also includes helping install wind turbines) - Electricians are involved in anything that uses electricity!  For example, setting up electrical for concerts, signs, special events, street lighting, stadium lighting, new buildings, stadiums, schools, houses, etc.  If it is wired for electricity, an electrician installed it! Talk about good job security!
Manufacturing Industry - Want to GUARANTEE yourself a job after school? This session is for you if you: 1) Want to make $100,000/year but you’re not going to be a doctor or lawyer. 2) You are interested in how things are made, you like working with your hands, are curious, a problem-solver, high-energy, and don’t want to sit at a desk all day.
Investment Banking - Are you good with numbers, do you like making money & learning about economics (money/business in our world)? Investment banking gives you an opportunity to make a lot of money but it can be stressful & you might work long hours. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, you might like investment banking as a career.
Portfolio Manager in Banking - Like money? Like the idea of helping people and companies to make more money?  I work with businesses and clients to provide loans and invest their stocks, bonds or other securities.  This is a well-paying career for the right person with the right skills.  Come learn if you have what it takes!
Healthcare Environmental Health - Interested in helping people and healthcare, but you DON'T want to be a healthcare provider like a physician, nurse or therapist? Healthcare is a BOOMING career field due to our aging population. Learn about how my struggles to become a Vice President so I could lead my organization to create a healthy, clean, and safe caregiving environment at Advocate Health. I hope to inspire you to achieve all that you can be like others inspired me!
Vice President of Fortune 500 Company - Do you want to know what it takes to lead and manage teams successfully? Do you want to know what it takes to succeed in a Fortune 500 company? Do you want to hear how hospitals and pharmacies get all of their products to support patients? Do you want to know how Amazon and logistics companies work? Do you have interest in selling something?
Sports Chiropractor (Doctor)/High School Sports Coach - I work in a relatively new subspecialty in the field of chiropractic medicine. Sports chiropractors specialize in the care of musculoskeletal injuries, including prevention. I assess and diagnose sports-related injuries and provide a non-invasive treatment. I also serve as the team chiropractor for Northern Illinois University’s track and field/cross country team.
Fitness Director - Are you involved in sports? Is PE your favorite class? Find out how you can turn health and fitness into a very fulfilling career! Through fitness you have the ability to impact people’s lives from the inside out. Come hear about how you too can change lives and have fun doing just that! 
Fitness Instructor/Movement Coach - Passionate about helping others achieve fitness?  I have a unique job in fitness:  I am a Movement Coach for MoveU in their online program. It is a type of physical fitness/corrective exercise. I am also an ACE certified Group Fitness Instructor. 
Occupational Therapist - Want to go to work each day and love what you do?  I treat injured, ill, or disabled patients so they can resume their everyday activities. OTs might work with children, teens, adults or elderly (or all of them) in a hospital, school or business setting.  There is a lot of flexibility in schedules (some OTs work part-time) and some travel to clients.
Physician Assistant/ Psychiatry - Love the idea of taking care of patients, making good money, but NOT being a doctor?  I work in the Psychiatric area (mental health) but, in general, a P.A. is a health care practitioner who practices medicine in collaboration with or under the supervision of a physician. PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and prescribe medication.  They are in high demand!
Forensic Accounting - I don't do forensics on dead bodies, but I look for clues in numbers to help solve possible crimes and improper actions. Like working with numbers but also think it would be cool to be working with lawyers? Forensic Accountants perform support to provide information regarding losses from torts (a wrongful act), as well as potential judgments and monetary awards from lawsuits. They work with attorneys to determine what damages to seek. Some FAs work for the FBI.
FBI (former agent) - Do you think Jason Bourne and James Bond tell the whole story?  Are you interested in law enforcement or government service?  As a retired FBI agent and current Counterintelligence Officer at Argonne, I'll discuss the reality, opportunities, and sense of purpose a career with the Federal Government can provide.  
Non-Profit Fundraising - I raise money for the Morton Arboretum so it can continue its fantastic fun and educational programs.  When you are a fundraiser, it is a type of sales career because you are asking people and companies to donate money to support the organization.  Non-Profit fundraising can be a lucrative career and jobs are available in all kinds of industries, such as universities, hospitals, nature/environment, and more. You need communication skills, presentation skills, ability to motivate and manage others, excellent organisation skills.
Author, Business Owner, Fitness Competitor, US Navy - Learn about the power of YOUR perseverance and hard work. YOU can achieve all of your dreams if you just learn to keep showing up for YOU! I will tell you about how I learned to be GRITTY and never ever give up. I learned to believe in myself through my military experiences and despite living on my own at the age of 15, I have written 6 books and own my own business! Lets talk about what GRIT means to YOU!
Sports Marketing - I work for the Chicago Bears and assist them in marketing our organization so companies and people will advertise at our games. We secure sponsors for sports teams and specific events and then make sure that their logos are printed on promotional items & programs, displayed on digital screens, and banners.
Culinary/Food Industry - Culinary chefs run a kitchen in a restaurant or other eating establishment. They select ingredients and develop recipes for the menu. They order kitchen supplies and food, maintain inventory and check food and other ingredients for freshness and taste. There are MANY jobs in the FOODs industry including: food scientists, bakers, food trucks, menu creators, food tasters, and more.
Insurance Industry Careers - This industry has jobs for those with a high school diploma or a college degree.  Jobs range from sales, marketing, claims (they figure out how bad the damage is to your property and how much money customers receive to fix it), actuaries (excel at math, statistics, and financial theory), data scientists, risk analysis, management, customer service, information technology, and more.  Everyone buys insurance to protect their house, car, business, life, and property so this is a HUGE industry.
Creative Field - I am still trying to find a presenter that works in a creative field, such as graphic arts, design, artist, dancer, theater, advertising, etc. If this would interest you, please choose this topic. (if I get someone, then I can place you in that session.)
Public Speaking & Writing - Want to learn some great tips from a professional public speaker on how to be more comfortable doing it and how to be good at it?  She is also a talented writer and can help you understand how these skills can lead to GREAT JOBS. She will teach you the essential 5 steps to Public Speaking. This session entitled “Public Speaking:Rule the Room with your Speech” will teach you how to woo your audience.
